Tamiz neonatal para detectar cardiopatías congénitas complejas. La nueva revolución en pediatría

RESUMEN
Existen evidencias sólidas que demuestran la utilidad de realizar de manera sistemática una prueba de saturación de oxígeno a todos los recién nacidos aparentemente sanos después de 24 horas de nacido y antes de 48 horas; a esta prueba se le ha llamado “tamiz neonatal para cardiopatías congénitas complejas” y sirve para detectar oportunamente anomalías cardiacas estructurales congénitas que cursan con hipoxemia. Las cardiopatías complejas con pronóstico grave que pueden detectarse por este método son: síndrome de corazón izquierdo hipoplásico, atresia congénita de la válvula pulmonar, tronco arterioso, conexión anómala total de las venas pulmonares, transposición completa de las grandes arterias, tetralogía de Fallot y atresia de la válvula tricúspide. Esta prueba se ha incorporado al conjunto obligatorio de pruebas para el tamiz neonatal en muchos países y su generalización a todo el mundo, parece inminente.
